PUBLIC HEARING ON PROPOSED UTILITY RATE (WATER & SEWER) FEE INCREASE

WATER RATE INCREASE

HOLDING A PUBLIC HEARING TO ALLOW THE PUBLIC TO COMMENT ON A PROPOSED WATER AND SEWER RATE INCREASE.

Purpose

To allow the public to comment on the proposed water and sewer rate increase.

Background

The City is in need of additional personnel to operate the Public Utility System of the City of Mathis. Continued wear of the infrastructure required to produce water, distribute it to customers and collect and treat wastewater has caused increased maintenance pressure on the system that is causing a backlog of work that must be addressed. To address this unmet need, the City is proposing adding 88 cents to the base rates of both the water and sewer charges to pay for an extra position in the Utility Fund. This will allow the department to create a second maintenance crew to address the backlog of workorders. The current crew of three men will be split into two crews of two men that will expand the capacity of the service level of the department.
